Stop topical steroid abuse!

Thursday, October 4, 2012

When you think the worst can't get any worse, it gets worser!

 his feet on saturday
then over night all hell broke loose and sunday he was oozing yellow, and could hardly walk!

monday he was still oozing and then they started to bleed...has not walked since sunday.

Well, he we r celebrating being done with our 7th month off topical steroids, to be hit by a mack truck full of a bacterial and yeast infection all over his feet and ankle.  The poor baby can't walk and is in so much pain, I'd say a 10, and this kid can take a lot of pain.  It is so sad to not only see him flare but on top of that see him suffering so much for the infections.  So frustrating and sad.....we are at our wits end!  How much more can we take?

The infection is so different from the red skin.....his feet are oozing yellow and blood and smell like rotten skin.  The holes in his feet are huge and the doctor said it felt like a very bad burn.  I hope he heals quickly on the meds and thankfully the codeine is helping him sleep a little.

I'll keep you posted on my brave little man.

Also, if you could click on the mommy's blog voting ( top left of blog) that would be awesome...my blog got accepted on their site but I need people to click on the link to keep it active. I am hoping this will be another way to bring more awareness to topical steroid addiction. Thank you so much and keep Kline in your thoughts! Xoxoxooxo

One fed up mama!

  2. Dr Marvin Rapaport & Dr Vicki Rapaport are the most trusted doctors when it comes to the red face syndrome and getting skin off topical steroid addiction. I know, I am one of his patients and have been steroid free for well over 6 years. It was tough going, but now my eczema is under control - the natural way. Good luck - you're in good hands.

    2. I have tried to share the red face problems in the FB forum, but it's fallen on deaf ears. Clearly, it's easier to see temp results with that steroid junk and believe in it's false relief, especially when folks are smearing the junk around their eyes - making it worse - heartbreaking to me, so I stopped posting. Kline will get through it - with the Doc Raps guidance. I know its tough, I empathize. I have a rash on the top of my foot too-looks like Klines, itchy kids (me way older) and summertime heat, but I know it will go away as long as I stay off the steroids. Be patient.

    4. try me on FB as a friend - I can't find you. I can't begin to tell you how Doc M Rap
helped me through it - I found him in about 2001 and still see him or Doc Vicki when my skin acts up. He was the only doc who got it, understood and had a sensible solution, IMHO.

    5. Hi Barbara. I also encourage you to join our ITSAN Facebook group. So many of us would love to hear about your recovery and progress through steroid withdrawal. How long did it take for you to have "normal" skin again, and to what degree does your eczema still act up?

    1. Lyssie, I'm sure Loren will be able to give you more details on the facebook group, but you can also check out our ITSAN Google group for additional support:
      https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!forum/ITSAN

We are always exchanging information and trying to figure out the easiest way to get through this torture. The itch is pretty terrible, but some people have found that ice packs help. Others are on antihistamines. I totally understand how difficult this is for you and your husband, as I am currently going through withdrawal myself. Come by the Google group and hopefully you will get some helpful advice.
