on a wonderful note, even though kline's feet are still fucked, he had a great weekend.
 Very little itchy flares and sunday he went all day and night with out the bath!!!! he is almost 1.5 yrs off the topical steroids, and that much closer to being healed!!!!!

Our local papaer did a piece about his steroids addiction withdrawal. He was so excited to see himself in the paper and said, "mom, I did a GREAT job!"Yes you did son!!!

I was honered and amazed to hear that a family in australia found kline's arrticle and they now know why their child is suffering so terribly.  It is Amazing that a little local paper in Lake Tahoe can help people around the world. So, even if you think what you are doing is small...it could have a great impact in the end!! Dust yourself off and take another step forward!!!!

Keira Gives Back -- ITSAN's new book, 'Taming the Scratchy Monster' now available.

A year in the making, it is a beautifully illustrated book for children and parents who are going through the topical steroid withdrawal process -- written by a dear friend of mine, fellow Red Skin warrior and brilliant author, Louise Jones.  My daughter, Keira and I came up with the concept of and character 'Scratchy Monster' during my daughter's painful withdrawal two years ago, a nuisance of a monster who once terrorized our family. 

Having both experienced topical steroid addiction and withdrawal, Louise and I teamed up to bring the 'Scratchy Monster' alive in a story that could help others who are still suffering.  Louise's skin is almost healed and my daughter, Keira fully healed last year from topical steroid addiction. She is now living life like a 5 -year-old should be, no longer a prisoner in her own skin. The story is based on our long and trying, and yet successful journey towards healing. In the story, the protagonist, Billy, endures many harsh conditions including a dry desert, an oozy swamp and a hot volcano in his efforts to escape the 'scratchy monster'. These conditions mirror the stages the skin may go through during the withdrawal process.

Steroid-induced eczema, also known as Red Skin Syndrome or topical steroid addiction, is a side effect of topical steroid creams -- a condition in which the body becomes dependent on topical steroid creams requiring stronger and stronger creams to obtain relief. ITSAN (International Topical Steroid Addiction Network) is giving the book away with a minimum donation of $35.00. 100% of the proceeds from this book goes to ITSAN.org to help children like Keira, and sufferers around the world. Louise and I wanted to give back to an organization that has changed our lives forever as well as help those who are still suffering from this painful condition.

Sweet Norman red skin syndrome has healed!

I would love to introduce you to a strong brave boy, Norman!

NORMAN HEALED!!!!!! 18 MONTHS off Topical steroids!

Norman is 6 from Penang, Malaysia.  He Started using steroid at the age of 3 when his eczema was only small spot on his cheeks and near his knee. His eczema started to show no respond towards the topical steroids after a few years and that's when his eczema started to spread a little near his elbow, and his skin became rough with tiny bumps all over...
His parents found out about topical steroid addiction through a local Malaysian support group and quitting cold turkey in January 2012 when Norman was 5.


Norman's father was and is also on steroid for the past 20 years. Norman's father tried to go through withdrawal but failed after a few attempts because it was so bad he couldn't go to work. The family cannot afford long leave from his job and continuing the withdrawal may result in him losing his job.


 Norman showed signs of healing from topical steroid addiction at month 8-9 plus months. At 18 months he is completely healed, which gives us hope for Kline healing!!!
